Comments from the Anonymous poster

Since everyone is entitled to their opinion I am posting the comments from the Anonymous poster. It is too bad they dont have the ability to publish their name with their comments. I just wanted to add a reply to their comments as well. If we continue to support the store and allow ourselves to be ripped off by the owner it will never change. So where will we be without the store? Shopping in Terrace, Smithers or Whitehorse, where we can save at least 50% over the cost of shopping in Dease Lake. I only can say I feel sorry for those who have never been outside of Dease lake and had the opportunity to find out what the real world is all about. And you can tell me that the costs of living in the north are higher all you want. Look at Whitehorse, another 700 kms further northwest and prices are still cheaper. I think some people need an education in economics. Hey this is only an opinion. Take it as you wish. Have a good day Dease Lake.

Post office moving?

Well folks, Here is some news we might find interesting. Latest gossip around town is that our post office is going to have to move thanks to the bully renting the building. That bully is the owner of the store as well. It makes me sick to think some some jerk can go and push people around because he thinks he is No.1. and wants to control the whole town.In my opinion he's nothing but a pompis ass. Buy the way thats where the same ass wants to put in the Hardware store, but the story goes he has no money to do so. And judging from the volume of customers going to the store I imagine he's hurting there as well. I was talking to the owner of the hardware store down south and he was telling me that he was approached to come and supply the store. He laughed and said No Way!I think that us town folk here need to stand up and say enough is enough and boycot that store and make sure that we never need to buy from the Hardware store if it ever opens up. And see that gas price? I feel for those who have to pay for gas.

End Of Summer

Well folks It looks like another summer gone by. Business around town is finally slowing down and theres less traffic on the road. At least we can get to the gas pumps now. If you can afford to buy gas from that rip off store. It would be nice if someone else opened a store again with a gas bar. We need some competition around here.
So as the summer ends I hear Mama Zs is closing down again for the winter. And judging from comments around town it wont be missed. We all want a cafe we can afford to go to and is open year round. From some of the comments I received but wont publish it looks like the health inspector is going to close it down if they dont deal with the mice droppings and poor hygeine of the employees.
I recently found a Mama Zs Cafe blog page. Wow this guy was pissed. I wouldnt blame him for not stopping there again. With a little searching you can find it. Be sure to check out the profile about the cheesecakes. Looks like weve been getting duped for those of us who dont know our cheesecakes.
I was shopping in the store the other day and was watching the prices on the till verses the ones on the shelf. You might want to check it out yourself. We are getting ripped of there too. I found 4 errors from my 10 items. It was only 40 cents but it still counts. Ill continue my shopping in Terrace I think.
Im looking for more input and complaints for us consumers to be aware of. If you have any issues let me know so I can publish them. Well, gotta go to the office now. Watch out eveeryone, The icy roads are coming soon and I dont care to peel any of our fine folks off the pavement.

Tierd of the High Gas Prices

Well its been a while since my last post. Ive been busy and somewhat forgot about my blog. Alot has happened over the past few months. My hubby has left town for another job after quitting his job with the turkey who owns the store. So watch out single men Im on the prowl. lol.
Now for business! Are you tierd of the high price of fuel in Dease Lake. Its time to make your complaints know and contact the competition branch. It is a well know issue here in Dease Lake and how the two gas stations regulate the price of fuel here. I know we live up north but it doesnt cost >25 cents a litre for fuel to be brought to Dease Lake. I think the line up of MotorHomes makes the owners of these stations greedy. Maybe we should by our gas down south and bring it back with us. I wish someone would open a new gas station and create some competition.
The local store already ran the local wholesale store out of business and wants to open a hardware store in the post office building. So much for trying to start a business in Dease Lake when you have someone trying to stuff out any business ventures.
Another thing we need here is an affordable restaurant. There is nowhere to eat now, that the food doesnt either suck or costs you your paycheck. I heard someone in town was going to open a restaurant that would be open year round but they also got shut down buy the owner of the store. I hear the owner of the store wants to control all the businesses in town. Good Luck.
Like one of my readers posted, "Try working for the turkey that owns the store".
My My Small town politics. Tell me about it.
I am looking to hear more comments from you locals and I will do my best to keep up this site. I have plenty of free time now that the old man is out of town.
See ya Soon

Back At It...It's About Time, eh?

Well, it's about time I dealt with this blog site with some commitment. I mean, a year ago I started it as a lark, but there's so many folk checking in to read, and sending letters, I sort of have to get into it again. Thanks to y'all for the support. I shall try to keep it clean and informative, cos that's what it was meant to be. Always receiving such great photos. I will try to post some here. Can't always put in everything that's happening, cos I am a busy person outside of this, but since I'm spending another Winter here, I'll do my best.

Hey, where'd the Hardware go? Where the Gift Store go? Where'd the Wholesale Grocery store go? And who's that turkey running the Super Valu? I've had people be rude to me before, an that's cos they knew me, but heck, I never even met this man before. He's got a foul mouth on him. He maybe save some of the soap he's tryin to sell and wash his own mouth with it. Sheeeesh! I like how he looks around at his staff, waiting for them to back him up with laughs in the right moment,..and nobody makes a sound. I presume they're all as shocked as I am at his profanities.

I'll tell ya, if the other grocery was still around, I'd be takin all my business to them. Who needs to be sworn at while trying to shop? Is my cash no good? I was in there twice last week, and I overheard him saying some pretty disturbing opinions about our native people. Why would a person with such a low opinion of native people purchase a store in a predominantly native community? Well, I don't think he's here to give them any deals.
That's my say....

AUGUST ALREADY ??????

Wow! How did it get to be August? Well..I alpologuise for not posting anything for awhile. I left the site in the care of a lady in the community, and I gather she was otherwise engaged in activities. Nothing has been posted since I left. Yes, I was away for a couple months, but I'm back now, and shall continue this site. For better or for worse. Drop me an e-mail and let me know you're checkin in. Thanks!

RCMP LOOK BUSIER ON PAPER

www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/bc/programs/aps/profiles/north/deaselake_full_e.htm

You want a good laugh? Tune in to the above website to hear all about how our local Dease Lake RCMPs are helping to organize the annual Fishing Derby, Annual Valentine's Day Brunch (now THATs a good one, is it private? I never even heard of that one) and other assorted events and organizations they're trying to take credit for. Wow, what a bunch of blarney! Check out this site and have a good read, all the way down the page.

Hell, they even are claiming that there was no Canada Day celebration here before 2002, and we have one now only because of them? C'mon, boys, lighten up! We had a couple years off but had plenty of parades an celebratin' long before you an yours came along. Who exactly is this propaganda intended to impress, anyways? Prospective new members? Politicians? Us? I'm sure as hell not impressed.

Perhaps you should have one of the locals, (one who's lived here and witnessed exactly what ya have, and what ya haven't been involved in) get them to write up yer page of activities and accomplishments. Sure, over the years, ya done afew things, and the odd officer has joined a club or two briefly, but it ain't no huge commitment like you been paintin' on yer web page. Send me a comment or two,...lets talk about this!

Have a read of the 'WALRUS'.....you may recognise someone....

Tuesday, March 20, 2007

Well now...thankyou to whomever sent me this! Once I realized it was a fake, and a good joke, I relaxed, but I'll tell ya, it scared the crap outta me! So, here it is to share with all of you.
I've been receiving more e-mails from Dease Lake residents and tourists alike. I will try to address them in my next post. Thanks to all who comment. Tell me what you'd like to see here. Coffee's on, gotta go get some real work done now. Cheers!

Saturday, March 17, 2007

Well, here we are in March already. I feel like the hibernatin' bear. I didn't see much of January or February. I ain't seen much of March either, and it's half over. When I look out my window I see snow. Snow, snow and more snow! Wow! Lucky for me I got a good snow shovel. I keep it under lock n key, cos in this season, it's a hot comodity. Don't want it slidin' away.

Drivin' down Boulder the other nite, I'm slowing down to dodge this huge dog. Well, it wasn't a dog. It was bigger than a dog. Well, damned if it weren't a moose! Really! No kidding. It was a huge moose walking right down Boulder Street. I was going to honk at it, but I'd heard of mooses attacking vehicles, so I laid off the horn and waited while it ambled along to Second Ave and climbed up onto a snowbank. Now I got somethin to write home about! Now, if only I had a decent camera, I mighta gotten a shot of him.
All for now, but keep tuned in. I'll be blogging regular again now.

Friday, February 16, 2007

OK, ok,...I'm really gettin behind. Had a cold since the beginning of the month (musta got it in Terrace) and got a backload of work to do. Well, yeah..I can come up with a ton of excuses...some of them even believable, but the truth is...February just isn't my month. I'll be back to posting on a more frequect basis when we hit March. See ya then!

E-Mails, e-mail....you've been busy writing! I'm impressed. I'll try to answer afew of your quieries here, best I can:
To: WLB: Your question could best be answered by a counsellor, but I'll give it a shot: No, never. It ain't meant to be there.
To Mr. Dude: Yes, I do drive a car with guts. It's an 89, but my work vehicle is newer. To WDDR: I think we'll know on February 2nd, when the groundhog makes his appearance. I tend to go for the old fashioned methods, and no, cooking one doesn't make Spring come any faster. Nice try, though!
To BDG: Yes, we have alot of snow up here, and snowmobiling is good. Awesome trails and scenery. Well worth the trip. Accomodation at Arctic Divide or Northway Motor Inn,..but make reservations first.
To 'Little Miss Q': I don't care what you want to show me,...I'm sure I've seen it before, and I'm not interested in seeing yours! This is a clean site, and I'm not about to publish your photo. Try National Geographic...they print pictures of those all the time. Thanks to all for the e-mails...keep 'em coming!

Mama 'Z' Needs Plants!

I've been informed this evening, that Mama 'Z's new restaurant is looking for donations of live plants from the community. She apparently is in the midst of a restaurant renovation, and would like to decorate her new establishment with real plants, rather than fake ones. So, anyone having an extra plant that they'd like to give to her...feel free to drop by the new place with it. She claims that she has a 'green thumb', so they'll be in good hands. You can always come and visit them, if you're having seperation anxiety!!

Monday, January 22, 2007

Well, sorry bout that....I ended up in Terrace for the weekend, to complete a mini course on....(never mind). As it ended late afternoon Saturday, I decided to stay and enjoy some of the local eating establishments and return to Dease on Sunday. Well, I didn't actually get as far as eating dinner...cos I'd dropped into "Hanky's" establishment for a brief 'cold one'. My before dinner drink became my dinner! Oops....

Made some new friends there, and found some old ones! Hello to Harry, 'Mo' and Ron, and thanks to the ladies for the dances. My legs are shot, but it was a good time all round. Rolled into my motel room, good ol' Sandman, around 3a.m.....alone, as usual....oh well...

After a big breakfast at 'Denny's" the next morn, I was ready for the road back to Dease. Left at 10:30 and found the road a bit slushy, but stable. From the Meziadin junction to Bell II, it was tough, even with my vehicle, an I got good tires on, too. I stopped in at Bell II for some coffee and a chat, asked afew folk what the road conditions were ahead of me. Sounded like more of the same.

When I got to it, it varried, but I stayed on the road. Saw a linx and two moose by the side. Swerved once to avoid some jackass stopped in the lane, no blinkers or nothin'! That was at the bottom of the Stikine hill, almost at the bridge. I got into Dease about 8:30pm. Glad to be home, wish I hadn't had 'dinner' in Terrace...but, live'n learn! Next time I'll have chinese food!

Wednesday, January 17, 2007

I heard an interesting rumor today. Apparently someone has their eye on a building in town, with plans to make a mini movie theatre out of it. It's the one that's most recently been a gift store. Actually, it's only always been a gift store. One or another. Now it stands empty. You know the place I mean. Now, doesn't it seem funny, with most people owning a dvd player and a comfy couch, that anyone would be interested in going to see a movie in a theatre?
Yes, I know there's theatres operating successfully in the cities still, but I think they're mainly used by kids and young adults. More of a hang out than a doing thing. Where would you rather watch a classic 'Chick Flick' ?? You want to sit amongst strangers in a muliti smelly huge room, with yer shoes making sticky sounds on the floor, and your elbow smearing on something from the arm rest...!!!?? Yuk! And then you're gunna get all emotional and cry into yer sleeve? EEEwwww! I'll take my livingroom any day. At least I know how old the glossetts are between the cushions, and the drinks aren't extra salted. Now, ... a movie theatre in Dease Lake? Forget about it!

Ok, ok...I took a day off. So, what of it? i went to the beach and sat in the sun. Yeah, there was snow and ice there too, but I had my line in the water, thru a hole, and got three big fish!! Now that's some day off! Just kidding. It was a normal Tuesday and I went to work as usual. I did take a break from this blog, though. My fingers and brain feel rested. see ya'll Wednesday!

I Gotta Get Me One of Those...

Late night Saturday night and here I am at the computer again. I think I'm going to have to have a day off. My eyes are beginning to glow from all that radiation coming off the monitor screen.

Time to pay a visit to our local computer equipment store, and check out the LED screens. You know the one. "Dr. 'T''s". It's located in the back of the Northern Bear Gifts on Commercial Drive. How many times have ya needed a writable CD right NOW? And what about those computer fix ups, tunes ups and TLC. Heck, we'd all be lost with out Ted. He understands us non techies when we try to explain what happens when we push 'this' and then 'that' happens,..or it goes 'pop' and dies.

Got a question? Phone him up and ask anytime. He's very generous and always willing to help. Local or tourist, he's there for ya, and can usually get ya back on yer computer feet. Shopping for a computer? Drop in and tell him what you're wanting to do with a computer. He'll know what you need, RAM, memory, sound card, video card, drives, do hickyz, thingys, whatever...and he'll probably be able to build it for ya, too!
And while you're visiting Ted's, don't forget to have a look through Jackie's Northern Bear Gifts. She's got a great selection of gifts to suit every budget! From jade carvings and fine gold jewelry to decorative wind chimes and animal figurines, embroidered hats and shirts, collectable dolls and souveniers... to childrens toys and gadgets. She's even got a great display of seasonal gifts and decorations. Her Christmas stock was amazing! If you're looking to buy that special someone, a special something....have a look in Jackie's store.

Dease Lake really has alot to offer it's residents and visitors. We're lucky to have such a great selection of stores and businesses. Let's do our best to support them. It's true, we can cruise down south and shop for all the bargains, but y'know, if we cruise, we lose. Bottom line: we need each other. One side strengthens the other. We have the power to help make Dease Lake more successful. With success comes money....with money comes more people,...with more people comes more money...get it?!! No, not just for the businesses, but we all prosper and benifit. Mo' money...mo'jobs...mo'money!!

OK, ok...I'm rambling on too much. It's late at nite and when Monday comes, I'm gunna get me one of those fancy LED screens. G'nite, Y'all!

Interesting Blogger Sites

Somebody travelling through who had an accident...ended up at Bell II and joined in an end of season party. Lots of photos. Maybe you'll recognise somebody.

Another accident on highway #37...only this one was a motorcycle. More tourists meeting northern locals (Bob Quinn staff?) and afew piccys.

This one is a 'Windows Spaces' site. Lots of piccys. The owner definitly lives in Dease, and she's on the Fire Department. Ha! Her name is in the address. That's a dead giveaway!

Another Windows Spaces site, and was highlighter earlier in my blog. He's not from Dease exactly, but has connections to.

Then there's this one...abit dated:

Here's an interesting bunch...you'll just have to dig thru them and see if they're tourists or locals, or whatever.

These folks stayed at Chuck's campground on the Lake: http://alaskagold.blogspot.com/2006/06/6606-dease-lake-bc.html

Re Mama Z's :

and the next enty re Mama Z'z

Well, I didn't actually have a topic to write about tonite, but I thought I ought to add something. Saw this great dalmations animation. Thought I'd share it. Today was a snowy one. Overcast and snowy. Glad I wasn't out driving in it. It was slippery enough walking. Twice I almost ended up on my butt. That's probably why my back is hurting now. Should've just let myself go.

I hear the Tanzilla Bar is serving food again! Friday night was steak night! I gather they've got special dinners lined up all thru the winter. Best to keep a look out and plan your evenings! Mighty fine lunches and dinners, and super great service! The beer is cold, and the smiles are included. The woodstoves, in each room, make it nice and cozy. Worth stopping in for awhile to get out of the cold and chat with a neighbor or two. Gunna have more than two drinks? Leave yer vehicle at home. Pubs are meant to be walked to anyhows. It's part of the experience. Have a good time, and a safe time. "Friends don't let friends drive drunk". It's so true.

T.G.I.F.!!!!!!

I was on the net last nite, looking for a good program to create my own animations. Well, I found many, but having downloaded one, on a free 15 day trial, I discovered it was beyond me. Sure, it came with a handy video that demonstrated how to turn a black line drawing into a 3D object d'art, but having watched it through twice, I was no more ahead than before.

Trying out all the fancy tools, I made a square look...pretty. Not quite what I had in mind. I know, I know,..you're gunna say 'stick with it', and 'practice makes perfect', but I was getting very frustrated. When I did finally create something half reasonable, (and I can't remember for the life of me - how I did it) I wasn't able to save the finished product to my folder properly. At least, when I did save it, and tried to drop it on my blog page, the whole program opened up again.

Darn! I'm just not a compy tech, and I don't think I'll ever get it. Need more time and skill. I don't even speak the language. Where I've gotten so far, is by sheer luck. Fortunatly, these free blog pages are user friendly, so most of what I do, that seems so 'skilled' is the result of an experiment that went well. 'Click on it and see what happens'. That's my moto! If it weren't for XP's 'system restore', I probably wouldn't still have a working computer! You should all try it. This blog site provides FREE pages to whomever wants one. Heck, take two, they're small! No harm in opening one up and learning.

Our local Northern Lights College is running some handy computer courses you might find helpful. Give them a call and tell them what you are interested in. They're pretty accomodating. They've got lots of top of the line equipment and instructors. We're lucky to have them, here in Dease Lake. Great opportunity to upgrade your education without havin' to go out of town.

REQUEST 4 ANIMATED EMOCONZ

OK, here ya go! I've been getting requests for particular animations. You can find these and save'em as easily as I, (see posting somewhere below for free animation sites) ..but I'll save ya some time. Mr. W.F. of New Hampshire, here's yer cats.
To save to your computer:

1. Simply place your mouse on top of the animation you want,

2. Right click and scroll down to 'save picture as'

3. Left click on that and a new box appears

4. Decide what file in your compy you want to store it by selecting the file above

5. On the same box, at the bottom, decide what you want to call it and press 'save'

That's it! Collect and enjoy! Use them on MSN Messenger, Web pages and Blogs, E-mails, too!

RULES of the ROAD, Dease Lake style!

1. Turn signals will give away your next move. A confident driver avoids using them.

2. Under no circumstance should you maintain a safe distance between you and the car in front of you, because the space will be filled in by somebody else, putting you in an even more dangerous situation.

3. Warning! Never come to a complete stop at a stop sign. No one expects it and it will result in your being rear-ended.

4. Braking is to be done as hard and late as possible to ensure that your ABS kicks in, giving a vigorous, foot massage as the brake pedal violently pulsates. For those of you without ABS , it's a chance to strengthen your leg muscles.

5. Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right. It's a good way to prepare other drivers entering the highway.

6. Speed limits are arbitrary figures; given only as a suggestion.

7. Always brake and rubberneck when you see an accident or even someone changing a tire. This is seen as a sign of respect for the victim.

8. Learn to swerve abruptly without signaling. Dease Lake is the home of high-speed slalom-driving; thanks to Department of Highways, which puts pot-holes in key locations to test drivers' reflexes and keep them alert.

9. Remember that the goal of every Dease Lake driver is to get ahead of the pack by whatever means necessary.

10. In Dease Lake, 'flipping the bird' is considered a polite salute. This gesture should always be returned.
(jus kiddin', eh!...y'all drive nice, now...y'hear!)

Dease Lake WEBSITES

From a weekend of touring the internet, hunting for interesting websites and blogs that make mention of Dease lake (and area) in a positive way, here are my best findings. I recomend you click on the links and 'have a boo' at them. You may know some of them already, but look anyways. They change, they update, they ...want to hear from you? Yes! Feedback is always nice. It inspires the creators to continue. It always helps to know that someone is interested. WE are interested.
My top recomendation is this one:

Although it's creator has moved from our midst, he is still with us (in thought) and is still interested in providing an accurate depiction of our community, which helps to attract new people here. Those seeking jobs, or tourists planning their treks, it all helps to advertise what and who we are. Send him an e-mail and tell him to keep up the great work! I did! Send him a photo you'd like to share. Tell him what's coming up in the community. Got a presentation? An event? Tell him!

More sites of interest:

It's January 2007. We are in the midst of another Northern Winter. Nothing unusual, so far, except for the wind gusts the other day. Snow depth is average, and we know there's lots more where that came from. Nice that it falls so lightly and is easy to shovel. Best advice, shovel out your paths right away, cos when it gets warm, then cold again, the snow is harder and heavier. That's when you'll feel the heart attack coming on. Take it easy, it's not worth dyin' for! Better yet, got kids? Ask them (or pay them) to do your shovelling. We can always use the money, and it'll keep us, (oops) them away from the tv and x-box for a little while, doing ya both good!

Now, what of the sign I've posted here? Well, what's harder on folks in Dease Lake, in winter, than a bunch of snow flakes? Gossip! It happens all year round, as a matter of fact. Unfortunatly, during wintertime, just after the holidays, it runs rampant. It's hurtful and harmful. Ok, ok, I know what you're thinkin'...here he is sayin' this all bout gossip, and he's speadin' tales like all getout. Well, you're right, sorta. I am a gossip, at least this site is to spread gossip, but mostly of the positive kind. If it's 'negatory', then I aint writin' the name of the feller or gal who's it's bout. AND...I aint writin' nothin that ain't mostly proved anyhows. (whut the heck....who stoles my good speakin' n writin' style?? Y'all gunna think I goofed off in school...jes a minit...)

(......There, all fixed.) So, with this Blog Site...I want to pass on info to you about what's happening here, or coming up,..or ...suspected? Hmmmm...I do need to pause on that one. Well, I don't intend to do harm to anyone, nor insult them, nor call them names. That's all been done by others, and it's time for something new. Bear with me. What my message is ultimately about, is thinking twice about what you hear about yer neighbors, and maybe not passing it on. Perhaps let a rumor or two die quietly. Gossip feeds on itself. When we are tired, bushed, fed up with everything, it's easy to reinforce some 'nasty' bout somebody, to make ourselves feel alittle bit more in control. Makes us feel powerful. Well now, ask yourself, is it worth it? I think all of us working to be a caring, compassionate, supportive community is alot more valuable than spreading some cheap garbage that might hurt someone. That's my thoughts for today. . .

"Baby, it's cold outside..."
(minus 30c to be exact)

Dig out yer long undies!

Tuesday, January 9, 2007

Look what I found! I was going thru 'Windows Live Spaces' sites, typing in key words such as 'Dease Lake' when I came across this one. Anyone can access it.The link is: http://seizureca.spaces.live.com/?lc=4105 and that should get ya there. This site belongs to the adult son of a resident here. (well, a part time resident, as she and her fella have moved to Smithers for the time being) If the owner of the house had any idea that this guy was posting photos of his gun collection, he'd have a bird! Gun collection, plus many shots from inside the house. So much for privacy. Check out the slide show on the site! Myself, I counted about 22 rifles, and I don't see the required security locks for them either. Wonder what that would co$t the owner in fines! The photos were posted this past November, from when the fellow came up to visit his mother. You can never assume that anything on the internet is private. Never!

Well, we got snow! Cleaned off my roof last week, and now there's another eight inches settled on there. It's still coming down, too. The snowmobilers are pleased. What a good year for sledding. Guess the school won't declare a 'Snow day' and close, eh. Oh well. At least it's light 'n fluffy for shovelling. If you had a powerful leaf blower, maybe you could use it to blow it all over to your neighbor's place! Poor man's snowblower ! Ha ha ha

OK,..I've been surfing the internet for interesting bits to share with you. Here's something. This little animation. It's the life cycle. You'll find you watch it thru about four times. Enjoy...
OK...the rumours were true! The Northcountry Wholesale grocery has indeed moved into the same building as Canada Post. I have been informed that they are open and operating as of now. Congrats on the move, and hope all goes well for them! Nice central location for us shoppers,..and easier for the touists to find, too.

We'll be there with our pickup trucks ready to fill! Lots of great deals and quality brands to choose from. Maybe they can kick that 'other grocery' into gear and force them to pay attention. Who knows. Northcountry Wholesale is the best thing to hit Dease Lake in a long time. Let's make sure we get out and support them!
The Month After Christmas.........

T'was the month after Christmas,
and all through the house
Nothing would fit me,
not even a blouse!
The cookies I'd nibbled,
the eggnog I'd taste
At the holiday parties
had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales
there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store
(less a walk than a lumber),
I'd remember the marvelous
meals I'd prepared,
The gravies and sauces
and beef nicely rared.
The wine and the rum balls,
the bread and the cheese
And the way I had never said,
"No thank you, please.
"As I dressed myself in my
husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to
do battle with dirt.
I said to myself, as only I can,
"You can't spend the winter
disguised as a man!
"So - away with the last
of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake,
every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that
I like must be banished
'Til all the additional ounces
have vanished.

I won't have a cookie
- not even a lick,
I'll want only to chew on
a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits,
nor cornbread, nor pie,
I'll munch on a carrot
and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome,
and life is a bore.
But isn't that what
January is for?
Unable to giggle,
no longer a riot,
Happy New Year to all -
and to all a good diet!
